STREET LIGHT SUPPORT COMMUNITY

EcoTech funded the supply and installation of solar powered street lights to improve lighting on village roads. This initiative will reduce the risk of accidents and improve safety and quality of life for residents. Other benefits include saving on electricity consumption, avoiding dependence on grid electricity, and lighting systems tailored to different community requirements. Solar street lights also contribute to improving local understanding of renewable energy sources

The total length of the road with solar lights is 3.8km with one light for every 30 meters. Survey of households was conducted with 137 people and 100% agree with the solar street light option.

The special feature of sunlight powered light is that there no connection to the grid needed. Light from renewable sources can help make roads brighter and easier to use at night with the aim of improving safety and reducing accidents in the dark

This initiative is part of the Community Development Program of the Hiep Thanh Wind Power Project. The purpose of this program is to ensure that the Hiep Thanh Wind Project contributes to society in a powerful way and at the same time receives the continued support of the broader community that the project forms a part of and serve

The impact on this initiative also extends to the national level. Lighting accounts for 25% of total electricity consumption in Vietnam and street lighting, about a tenth of that. The Vietnamese government recently issued a new law on energy efficiency as well as a decree on energy saving, with a national plan for energy-efficient street lighting to be implemented over the next 15 years. Together, these efforts will help reduce energy consumption and reduce carbon emissions across the country. Through a community development program of CFM-funded projects, several communities are benefiting from energy-efficient lighting
